About Me

Dr. Hongkai Yu is the leading Director of the Cleveland Vision & AI Lab. He is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Cleveland State University. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC (Advisor: Prof. Song Wang, AE of IEEE T-PAMI) in 2018. He earned his M.S. in Traffic Information Engineering and Control and B.S. in Automation from Chang'an University, Xi'an, China in 2012 and 2009 respectively. In 2017 summer, he worked at TuSimple, San Diego, CA as a Research & Develop intern for autonomous driving. His research achievements lead to 1 book chapter, 3 patents and about 50 papers, including many prestigious conference and journal papers, such as CVPR, ICCV, AAAI, ACM MM, IEEE T-IP, IEEE T-MM, IEEE T-ITS, Transportation Research Part C, etc. He is the Area Chair for ACM Multimedia 2022 and IEEE MIPR 2022.

He received the Best Poster Award in Gamecock Computing Symposium and the award of Outstanding Graduate Researcher in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at University of South Carolina in 2016 and 2017 respectively. He received the Outstanding Reviewer Award of the journal Pattern Recognition Letters in 2018.
